Problem & Solution
Expats struggled with fragmented information, complex navigation, and the absence of a centralized platform combining content and community. The initial solution used a sidebar to manage multiple categories, but usability testing showed it was overwhelming and reduced content discoverability, especially on mobile. The final design replaced it with a simplified header navigation, improving clarity, accessibility, and overall user experience.
To better understand user needs, a survey was conducted among expats.
Insights:
70% had difficulties finding reliable information
35% wanted all essential information in one place
40% would use the platform multiple times per week
75% were interested in a local community and real-life experiences
75% prioritized: legal information, cultural adaptation tips, housing guidance.
68% preferred content in the format of short, structured guides
Conclusion: Users primarily value reliable, centralized information and prefer content in short, structured formats. There is a strong demand for practical topics such as legal guidance, housing, and cultural adaptation. Additionally, users expect not only information but also access to a local community and real-life experiences.

The design was created in Figma using a component-based system with Auto Layout and consistent design guidelines. The initial sidebar approach was iterated into a header navigation based on usability testing results. A scalable UI kit, interactive prototypes, and responsive grid system ensured consistency across devices, with a strong focus on mobile experience.

A set of social media story templates was designed to support platform promotion and user engagement. The visuals follow the core design system, ensuring consistency across touchpoints. These assets help communicate content clearly, drive traffic, and strengthen the sense of community.
